May 3-9, 2021 is the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mental Health Week

This year’s theme is “Name it, don’t numb it: #GetReal about how you feel.” For more information, go to www.mentalhealthweek.ca

 

It is suggested that mental health “prevention and promotion need to be the priority of Canada’s public health strategy if improvements are to be made to the mental health outcomes of Canadian children and youth” (Waddel et al., 2005). You can support the mental health of children and youth by reducing stigma, receiving information, and reflecting on strategies. To help equip parents, caregivers, and community members, The CYF Caregiver Education Team is offering the following free mental health workshopsthis week in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation:

Caregiver Education Session  / Parenting Strategies that Promote Positive Mental Health

In this 90 minute online session, we will explore factors that contribute to a child’s mental health and wellness and learn how parents and caregivers can be their child’s greatest mental health asset.

In this 90 minute online session, we will look at how we can develop positive relationships with our children. As one of the most foundational parenting strategies, other strategies are more effective when you discover the connection that can be built through parental presence and child-directed play.  This session is the first session in a 7-week parenting series; participants are welcome to register for one or more sessions in the series.

 Drop-In Series / Mental Health and Resiliency Series: Calming Our Bodies and Minds

In this 90 minute online session, we will discuss the ways that our bodies and minds respond to stress and learn strategies for equipping our children to regain a sense of calm and control in the midst of life’s stressors. This session is the fifth session in a 7 week resiliency series; participants are welcome to register for one or more sessions in the series.
